MPB to partner with International Garden Photographer of the Year

MPB, the world’s largest online platform for used photography and videography kit, has signed to be the exclusive sponsor of the ‘Plants & Planet’ category of the International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY). The category will now be known as ‘MPB Plants & Planet’.

Founded by Matt Barker in 2011, MPB is committed to making photography and videography kit more accessible and affordable, helping to visualise a more sustainable future. MPB extends the life and creative potential of 300,000 items of photo and video kit for visual storytellers around the world every year.

IGPOTY, now in its 16th year, is one of the world’s most respected photography competitions; and is a leader in depicting natural plant life via photography. MPB’s partnership will see the platform supplying a £1,000 prize voucher—to spend on used photo and video kit from MPB—to the winner of the ‘MPB Plants & Planet’ category. MPB will also provide camera kit for a photography workshop.

Started in 2007, IGPOTY grew in its acclaim and under the management of Tyrone McGlinchey, blossomed to become one of the world’s premier photography competitions and exhibitions specialising in garden and plant photography. IGPOTY runs all competitions via its specialised website platform: www.igpoty.com

The main competition normally runs from February to 31st October each year and has an overall first place prize of £5,000 (best single image) plus £1,500 for the Portfolios winner. There are nine main thematic categories, and a variety of annual special awards including the European Garden Photography Award and numerous localised photo competitions such as ‘Beautiful Blenheim’ (in partnership with the UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Tyrone McGlinchey, MD and Head Judge of IGPOTY, commented:

“We are delighted to welcome MPB as a key partner for our 2022 competition. Their online platform helps make photography equipment more affordable and accessible to more people and helps to recirculate existing supplies and we look forward to helping MPB  gain exposure from IGPOTY’s audiences.”

Matt Barker, CEO and founder of MPB added,

“We are thrilled to sponsor the Plants & Planet category at this year’s IGPOTY. At MPB we strive to get more kit in more hands, in a way that helps people and the planet. This partnership gives us the perfect opportunity to do just that. We can’t wait to see the entries.”
