Reg&Co. were in Liverpool this week with Beth Tweddle MBE revisiting her old gymnastics club ahead of the World Gymnastics Championships, which start on October 29.
Tweddle was opening a rebuild project at Liverpool Gymnastics Club, launched by Volunteer it Yourself (VIY) who support young people not in education, employment or training to learn trade skills whilst renovating community places.
Reg&Co. have been working with VIY since 2020 and brokered the deal between Persimmon Homes and VIY. Liverpool is the second of four projects between VIY and Persimmon Homes
VIY worked in partnership with Liverpool City Council on the renovation, funding was provided by housebuilder Persimmon Homes, whose employees and apprentices also volunteered on the project. Leading paint brand Dulux donated paint and a local Travis Perkins branch donated materials, with Sport England providing match-funding.
The young volunteers have been mentored by VIY’s Skills Mentors and professional tradespeople and will gain City and Guilds Entry Level qualifications as a result of their participation with VIY.
