The Nocturne 2020: London Road Cycling Criterium

The Nocturne: Close your eyes and picture high-speed professional road bikes cycling through the city centre, inches away from spectators, screaming to cheer on their rider, their team. It’s the ultimate accessible professional sport in some of the world’s greatest cities and it’s looking for brand partners to share that experience with their clients and customers.

The Nocturne Overview

The Nocturne is probably the best known and longest-running one-day celebration of cycling staged in one of the world’s great capitals. It has been running since 2007 and has become an established highlight of London’s event calendar having attracted professional teams as well as WorldTour star riders.

It is a closed road cycling criterium over a distance of around 1.3km and includes a series of races throughout the day and into the night allowing for a powerful experience for spectators and multiple opportunities for sponsoring brands to engage multiple audiences throughout the day and evening sessions.

After a break in 2019, London Nocturne is back in 2020 for its 14th staging and is being held in an iconic London location. Building on its successful past, the 2020 London Nocturne will have a bigger and even better programme with more riding, more racing, more fun and more entertainment for fans, visitors and participants alike.

History of The Criterium

The Nocturne first took to our streets in 2007 on the iconic streets of London’s historic Smithfield Market and has for the last five years been staged in the heart of the City. The first event attracted over 5,000 spectators and was recognized for its innovation, receiving a Visit London Sports Tourism Award.

Since then, the event has grown bigger each year with the latest staging of the event in June 2018 attracting an estimated audience of 20,000 spectators.

Nocturne attracts a large and diverse audience from all walks of life, ranging from families through to young professionals to racing fans; during the daytime, the event is particularly popular with families with children, as well as city dwellers, casual cycling enthusiasts and recreational riders. At night the streets come alive with additional entertainment, music, and organised hospitality.
